Best Bets of The Night

Game: Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat -7.5 (MIA leads 1-0)

Miami dominated Atlanta in Game 1 and held Trae Young to a staggeringly low eight points (1-12 FG). If the Hawks hope to win, they have absolutely no chance with Trae scoring less than 20 points in any given game. For him to score less than 10 points on less than 10% shooting from the field is concerning. Granted, Young is one of the players who can run really hot or really cold. He carried the Hawks past the play-in games but nonetheless had some bad shooting stretches in the play-in games before the first round. John Collins returned and played efficiently, producing 10 points (4-6 FG) and four rebounds in 21 minutes. The bad news for the Hawks is that Clint Capela's right knee will keep him out for Game 2. He was crucial to the Hawks' success in the play-in games.

Not one Hawk came close to producing 20 points in Game 1. The team converted just 38.7% of their shots from the field. In sharp contrast, the Miami Heat shot 52.4% from the field and an impressive 47.4% from downtown in Game 1. Duncan Robinson had a huge and incredibly efficient game, scoring 27 points (9-10 FG), drilling eight of nine of his three-point attempts. The Miami Heat looked like the first seed in the East on Easter Sunday with a statement 115-91 win over the visiting Hawks.

The Pick: Miami Heat -7.5

Game: Minnesota Timberwolves at Memphis Grizzlies -7 (MIN leads 1-0)

A seemingly unstoppable Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves stunned Ja Morant and the Grizzlies in Game 1 on the road. Edwards produce 36 points (12-23 FG), six assists, one steal, and one block in the opening game of their first-round series.

Nonetheless, the Grizzlies remain one of the best teams in the NBA and perhaps the only threat to Golden State along with the Phoenix Suns. I see it as highly unlikely that the T-Wolves win back-to-back games on the road against a healthy Memphis squad. They had a great game on Saturday with 130 points.

The Pick: Memphis Grizzlies -7

Game: New Orleans Pelicans at Phoenix Suns -10.5 (PHX leads 1-0)

Especially after seeing the Suns' dominant performance in Game 1, it's highly likely that the Suns wins Game 2 at home. Nonetheless, the spread is currently set at 10.5 points, meaning that the Suns would have to win by 11 points, just like they did in Game 1 with a final score of 99-110. New Orleans stuck around throughout the game giving the Suns multiple scares. Part of the reason New Orleans only scored 99 points was terrible first-half shooting performances from C.J. McCollum and Brandon Ingram. Ultimately, Ingram finished with 18 points (6-17 FG) and McCollum tallied 25 (9-25 FG), despite better overall shooting in the second half. Even Jonas Valunciunas had a rough night shooting (7-of-21 from the field) and failed to block a single shot. Still, he produced another double-double with 18 points and 20+ boards. I think the Pelicans will shoot the ball better tonight than they did in Game 1, and will ultimately cover the spread.

The Pick: New Orleans +10.5

NBA Player Props of the Night

Game: Minnesota Timberwolves at Memphis Grizzlies -7 (MIN leads 1-0)

Prop: Ja Morant, Over 29.5 Points

Ja Morant scored 32 points (8-18 FG) in Game 1, and that wasn’t enough for the Grizzlies to win. If Morant needs to out-do himself after playing so well, he certainly can and he’s done it before. Morant has a good chance of hitting 35+ points tonight after a stinger of a defeat in Game 1 thanks to Anthony Edwards’ heroics. Ja will show Edwards what one more year of NBA experience looks like tonight.

Prop: Steven Adams, Under 9.5 Rebounds

The Grizzlies' big man played just 24 minutes and only hauled-in three boards in Game 1. Adams lost the defensive matchup badly to Karl-Anthony Towns. KAT grabbed 13 rebounds, one block, and led his team to victory in Game 1. It seems very unlikely that Adams records 10+ rebounds in Game 2.

NBA fans and sports bettors will be treated to an 11-game slate to quench our thirst for March Madness to resume.

Considering all the injuries and the 22 teams in action, there are a few wagers to exploit if you act swiftly. Let's pick a few of these games, and dive in for tonight’s best bets.

Best Bets of the Night

Game 1: New York Knicks at Charlotte Hornets - 7 (-110)

The New York Knicks have nothing to play for anymore while the Hornets have everything on the line to get the highest seed possible. Tom Thibedeau’s second year in New York has gone to shambles after winning coach of the year last season. Charlotte should win this game big at home tonight against a discombobulated Knicks team that gave up on the season before the New Year.

The Pick: Charlotte Hornets - 7 (-110)

Game 2: Brooklyn Nets at Memphis Grizzlies +2.5

The Nets have turned it on and been on fire as of late. As they make a late push for better placement in the Eastern Conference. The Nets have won six of their last seven games with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving each erupting every other night as the playoffs approach. I do think that the Grizzlies will defend the home floor. Somehow, they are the underdogs tonight. The Grizzlies move the ball better than the Nets and have more versatility. After Ja Morant, Steven Adams, Jaren Jackson Jr., Desmond Bane, and Brandon Clarke have been crucial to Memphis’ success over the last few months. In comparison, the Nets are still without Ben Simmons, and fully reliant (for the most part) on their two superstars to win games. Finally, Memphis is the team in the NBA that covers the spread the most in the entire league this season. While the Grizzlies have somewhat cooled down after having an amazing first two months of 2022, they will defend the home floor tonight and cool down the iso-ball Brooklyn Nets.

The Pick: Memphis Grizzlies ML + 128

Game 3: Sacramento Kings at Indiana Pacers - 6 (-110)

This game should be a fun one, especially for the blockbuster trade which principally sent Buddy Hield and Tyrese Haliburton to Indiana in exchange for Domantas Sabonis. My opinion is that this is a highly contested game, but that Haliburton erupts for a big game playing with a chip on his shoulder. Alongside Buddy Hield, these new-looking Pacers will defend the home floor and win by at least six points.

The Pick: Indiana Pacers - 6 (-110)

Game: San Antonio Spurs at Portland Trail Blazers

Leg 1: Keldon Johnson, Over 6.5 Rebounds

Keldon Johnson is on the floor for the Spurs all night giving it his all. This season, he’s averaging 31.6 minutes per contest and producing 6.1 rebounds per game. Since Portland will be bodied tonight, I expect Johnson to take advantage of one of the weakest defending teams to pick up some offensive rebounds helping him tally at least seven boards tonight against the Blazers.

Leg 2: Devin Vassel, Under 14.5 Points

Vassel is averaging 11.8 PPG while shooting a mediocre 42.6% from the field this season. He has seen an uptick in minutes towards the end of the season and is playing closer to 30 MPG over his last ten games. Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson will combine for the majority of San Antonio’s points tonight while Vassel will score 14 points or less.

Leg 3: Dejounte Murray, Over 9.5 assists

Dejounte Murray is having an amazing season and is almost averaging a double-double with 20.8 points and 9.3 assists per game. Over his last ten games, Murray has recorded ten assists or more four times in his last ten games. Tonight, I think the Spurs will score big numbers against the Portland Trail Blazers who allow the fourth-most points per game (114.2 PPG) from opposing teams in the entire league. Only Charlotte, Houston, and Sacramento allow more. If the Spurs score a lot tonight, it will be Dejounte Murray distributing the ball. Even if it is a blowout, Murray could easily hit 10 assists by the third quarter against a Blazers roster that is virtually unrecognizable.

We have a six-game slate of NBA action Wednesday night.

This includes the Tyrese Haliburton-less Kings, who will seek to bounce back after a 20-point loss to the T-Wolves in the second of back-to-back games. The National TV broadcast on ESPN tonight will showcase some of the best teams in the East and West, battling to improve or protect their current playoff standings. Charlotte will try to break out of a five-game losing streak on the road in Chicago while the Utah Jazz will host Stephen Curry and the Warriors tonight.

Best Bets of the Night

Bet #1

Game: Toronto Raptors at Oklahoma City Thunder (Over / Under: 205 points)

Las Vegas is expecting this to be a rather low-scoring game. I think OKC and Toronto will easily exceed 205 points of total scoring tonight. The Raptors have won six games in a row and scored at least 106 points in each of those contests. Although the Thunder are without their best scorer in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Tre Mann has taken over and has scored his fair share of buckets. Mann is not close to as efficient as SGA, but he’s helped OKC score at least 96 points in each of the last six games. 205 points is a very small total between two NBA teams in general. Toronto hits 100-110 points of offense on most nights. Although OKC is the lowest-scoring team in the association averaging 101 PPG this season, they should tally at least 95-100 points against the Raptors tonight. Toronto is averaging 108.4 PPG this season. Therefore, if the Thunder can tally 100 points tonight on their home floor, this game should easily exceed the total.

The Pick: Over 205 Points (-110)

Bet #2

Game: Chicago Bulls at Charlotte Hornets (-2)

This Eastern Conference showdown is sure to be an entertaining game and a very high-scoring affair. The Over / Under is set at 237 points (which we will not touch at all). The two-point spread indicates how close of a game this is set to be. Charlotte has lost five games in a row, and I do not think they have a chance to break that losing streak at the Spectrum Center tonight. Besides Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso who remain out indefinitely, the Bulls have Nikola Vucevic, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan all available for tonight’s game. Coby White has done a great job of filling in for Lonzo Ball. In contrast, the Hornets are lacking serious depth at the forward position tonight. Gordon Hayward, Cody Martin, and Jaden McDaniels are all out for tonight’s game. While Lamelo Ball, Terry Rozier, and Miles Bridges should all play tonight, the Hornets will be without some much-needed muscle. Vucevic should have a big night taking into consideration Charlotte’s lack of depth among power forwards. Mason Plumlee should be his biggest challenge in the paint, and Vuc should easily win that matchup. Don't forget that the Bulls have the highest cover percentage against the spread as favorites.

The Pick: Chicago Bulls -2 (-110)

Bet #3

Game: Minnesota Timberwolves at Sacramento Kings (+9)

Although the Kings didn’t win last night, our suggestion to pick Sacramento to defend the homecourt was published before the blockbuster trade which featured Tyrese Haliburton and Domantas Sabonis. This news unquestionably had an impact on Sacramento’s game. Mixed feelings for players like fans at the Golden 1 Center made the upset pick we suggested simply impossible. The Kings were annihilated by the T-Wolves for a final score of 134 - 114. Sacramento is in a state of disarray as far as its basketball is concerned. The massive deal which sent Domantas Sabonis and Justin Holiday to Sacramento in exchange for Tyrese Haliburton, Tristan Thompson, and Buddy Hield to Indiana is serving as an incalculable source of distraction for members of the Kings' organization. Especially since the newly acquired Domantas Sabonis will likely not be available for the Kings tonight, the Timberwolves should blow them out again and win by at least nine points. There has been too much change and off-the-court shenanigans for the Kings to protect the home floor like I thought they could before the trade took place yesterday. In addition, the Timberwolves are at full strength while the Kings will likely be without Marvin Bagley III and Richaun Holmes for tonight’s contest.

The Pick: Minnesota Timberwolves -9 (-114)

Game: Golden State Warriors at Utah Jazz (-2.5)

With all the trades that have taken place over the last few days, the Warriors and the Jazz are two teams that have managed to stay away from all that buzz. Feel free to take these props on their own, mix and match them, or take them all for the biggest potential win tonight.

Sign up here for FanDuel Sportsbook and place your NBA bets today!. Right now, they're offering 56:1 Odds to new users on either team to win the Super Bowl. With this promo, a new user could turn just $5 into $280 by picking the right Super Bowl Champion.

Prop #1: Stephen Curry, Over 25.5 Points+ (-112)

Klay Thompson will not be active for tonight’s contest between the Warriors and the Jazz. Stephen Curry should do a majority of the scoring and have a huge night. He’s only scored more than 30 points in two of his last 10 games. Steph has been in somewhat of a slump as of late which has affected his season totals. He is averaging 25.7 PPG on 42.2% shooting from the field, the latter of which is a career-low average. While Curry shot 40.5 FG% in five games he played in 2019 before sustaining a season-ending injury, Steph has never shot below 45% from the field in any season of his thirteen years in the league. Curry should easily score at least 26 points tonight without Klay Thompson in the rotation.

Prop #2: Andrew Wiggins, Over 17.5 Points (-104)

For the same reason as Stephen Curry, Andrew Wiggins will likely score more than 17.5 points tonight. He has scored 12 points and 15 points in his last two contests respectively, which is well below his season average of 18.1 PPG. However, he should certainly take a few of the shots Klay Thompson will not be taking tonight. Like Curry, I think Wiggins hits the over in points tonight especially after having two back-to-back relatively low-scoring nights.

Prop #3: Royce O’Neale, Over 6.5 Points (-122)

Since Joe Ingles' season ended last week with a torn ACL, Royce O’Neale has maintained his 30+ MPG. However, he’s scored six points in each of his last two contests and missed his points prop on both of those nights. This evening, he only needs to score one more point to cash this prop. In the game that preceded his two six-point nights, O’Neale recorded 15 points in 34 minutes. I expect him to produce at least 10 points of offense tonight in a tightly contested battle.

Gaming's gone legit.

Gone are the days of the Pete Roses and Cosa Nostra and back alley bookies with names like Johnny Two-Times and Shorty Mac (who was actually 7 ft tall). The digerati stepped in and America finally caught on that sports betting - whether fantasy, real money wagering or prop bets - is just. Plain. Fun.
